Fire Safety Types & Regulations

Fire Extinguishers

Water Fire Extinguishers

Our entire range of water fire extinguishers are fitted with jet stream nozzles which directs a concentrated flow of water on to the hazard. Still one of the most cost-effective substances to use in emergencies, our water extinguishers are designed to ensure that you can fight a blaze at a safe distance.

Water Fire Extinguishers leave no chemical residue and should never be used on electrical fires.

3L Water Fire Extinguisher

Perfect for homes, caravans, cars and small businesses, our 3L water extinguishers are very mobile and easily stored in small spaces.

This extinguisher can control deep-seated fires and are typically used to tackle fires involving paper, cloth and wood (including furniture).

6L Water Fire Extinguisher

This fire extinguisher is ideal for all premises where a threat of fire involving textiles, paper and/or wood exists.

With a controllable discharge function, this extinguisher is easily mounted for convenient access and is ideal for large family homes and commercial retail premises.

9L Water Fire Extinguisher

Foam Fire Extinguishers

Particularly useful on class B fires involving oil, petrol and paint thinners, for example, our foam fire extinguisher range comes in 3L, 6L and 9L sizes.

With water properties, foam extinguishers have the same cooling effect as water extinguishers; however, an added foam film works effectively to starve the fire of oxygen.

3L Foam Fire Extinguisher

Light-weight and portable, our 3-litre foam fire extinguishers are perfect for use in small spaces such as apartments, caravans and cars.

With handy storage capacity, a foam fire extinguisher is a more convenient option than a water extinguisher for the equivalent fire risk.

6L Foam Fire Extinguisher

We usually recommend a 6-litre foam extinguisher for many business premises such as retail outlets, small offices and some schools given its versatility in combating both class A and B fire types.

It can be supplied with a wall mounting bracket for convenient access.

9L Foam Fire Extinguisher

The 9-litre foam fire extinguisher is most popular for large office spaces, common areas in apartment buildings and schools.

Used on both Class A and B fires, the 9-litre option provides more capacity to tackle deep-seated blazes.

Powder Fire Extinguishers

Although suitable for both Class A and B fires, powder fire extinguishers can also be used on Class C emergencies including electrical hazards and blazes involving liquids and gases.

Due to low visibility, powder extinguishers are more conducive to large open spaces or warehouses, for example.

1kg Powder Fire Extinguisher

Easily stored, the 1kg powder fire extinguisher can be used in cars, boats, caravans and, in some cases, around the house on kitchen fires, for example.

2kg Powder Fire Extinguisher

Highly versatile, this extinguisher is suitable for most fire risks, including electrical hazards, vehicle fires, and blazes on flammable liquids and gases.

2kg Powder Fire Extinguisher – Easy Action

Our easy action 2kg powder fire extinguisher allows for one hand operation while its shrouded head reduces the risk of tangling, especially in tight areas like boat cabins or cars.

4kg Powder Fire Extinguisher

Generally fitted in workplaces such as garages and industrial warehouses, for example, the 4kg powder fire extinguisher range is a multi-purpose solution for Class A, B and C fires.

6kg Powder Fire Extinguisher

Fitted with a comfortable squeeze-grip application, the 6kg powder fire extinguisher is most popular for industrial and large office spaces given its effectiveness on a variety of fires.

9kg Powder Fire Extinguisher

The 9kg powder fire extinguisher is most popular for large open spaces and is an effective tool for battling a multitude of fires, including electrical, chemical and general blazes involving solid combustible materials.

12kg Powder Fire Extinguisher – Truck & Van

The option of choice for many logistics and supply chain operations, the 12kg powder fire extinguisher is used most commonly on emergencies involving heavy duty vehicle fires.

CO2 Fire Extinguishers

Suitable for use on fire involving electronic devices, CO2 fire extinguishers are commonly found in all types of premises, especially homes, home offices, and commercial buildings containing items such as computers, laptops and televisions.

This extinguisher is popular as it leaves little harmful residue after use.

2kg CO2 Fire Extinguisher

A light-weight canister, the 2kg CO2 Fire Extinguisher is popular in schools (especially computer rooms), home offices and retail premises.

This product is also fitted with an insulated squeeze grip application, which protects against cold burns during use.

5kg CO2 Fire Extinguisher

Ideal for use on large electrical fires, the 5kg CO2 Fire Extinguisher is popular in industrial and commercial premises, especially those housing fleets of vehicles and motorised tools and equipment.

This product is fitted with an insulated squeeze grip application, which protects against cold burns during use.

Wet Chemical Extinguishers

Specifically designed to combat Class F fires such as cooking oil and deep fat fryer blazes, our wet chemical extinguishers also have a Class A rating and can be used on combustible solid materials such as paper, textiles and furniture.

This product is fitted with an extended hose application, which allows the extinguisher to be used from safe distances.

6L Wet Chemical Fire Extinguisher

Generally used in all catering environments including restaurants and fast food establishments, our 6-litre wet chemical fire extinguishers are fitted with extension wands to allow for safe discharge and application.

Our fire extinguisher covers come in both light-weight and heavy-duty versions and are reinforced with vinyl with hook and loop closures.

We have covers available to fit all types and sizes of fire extinguisher.

Our heavy cover range is suitable for protecting outdoor fire safety equipment. With a lifespan of roughly five years, these covers are fitted with hook and loop closures for easy access.

Fire Extinguisher Trolleys and Stands

Our entire range of fire extinguisher trolleys and stands comply with Irish and European fire regulations, which state that where extinguishers cannot be wall or truck mounted, trolleys or stands must be in place at fire points.

Also ideal for temporary premises such as petrol station forecourts, pop-up shops or markets, our trolleys and stands are available in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Double Red Fire Point

Robust and free-standing for increased flexibility, the double red fire point is suitable for all types of portable fire extinguishers.

This type of stand can be used on construction sites, clean room and catering areas.

Fire Extinguishers

If you run a business or maintain a building it’s your legal responsibility to provide and maintain adequate fire alarms & fire extinguishers.

More importantly, hand held fire extinguishers can help you to contain small fires and prevent minor incidents from becoming more serious.

Before you choose a particularly product, it’s important that you understand what type of fire extinguisher you require.

Fires have been divided into six classes based on the fuel involved. Particular fire extinguishers are suitable for particular classes of fire but not all. Your choice should be based on the likely fuel for any fire in a given area.

Fire classes

Class A: Fires based on flammable solids such as wood, furniture, textiles and some plastics

Class B: Fires involving flammable liquids or liquifiable solids such as petrol and oil

Class C: Fires involving flammable gases

Class D: Fires involving combustible metals including sodium, magnesium and potassium

Class E: Fires involving any materials found in Class A and B fires, but including electrical appliances, wiring or any electical products that match be close to the area of the fire

Class F: Fires involving cooking fats and oils. These fires reach very high temperatures, in excess of other flammable liquids.

Extinguisher types

Water extinguishers

Water extinguishers work by cooling the material that’s burining. They are effective on class A fires.

  • APW (Air Pressurised Water) extinguishers are effective on Class A fires. They are relatively harmless and cause little mess following use.
  • Water mist extinguishers use a fine mist of water to prevent the conduction of electricity bac to the operator. They are suitable for Class A and Class C fires and are widely used in areas where the fact that the extinguishing agent is harmless is a priority eg., hospitals.

Foam extinguishers

Foam fire extinguishers work by forming a frothy blanket or seal over a fuel, preventing oxegen from reaching it and effectively smothering the fire. Unlike powder extinguishers a foam can be used without flashbacks.

  • AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam) extinguishers are used to supress vapour on Class A and B fires.
  • AR-AFFF (Alcohol Resistant Aqueous Film Forming Foam) are suitable for use on fuel fires containing alcohol.

Dry Powder

Dry powder extinguishers work by preventing chemical reactions involving heat, fuel and oxygen. They halt the production of the free radicals that fuel a fire and thus cause the fire to go out.

  • ABC Dry Powder extinguishers can be used on Classes A, B and C fires plus electrical fires.

Carbon Dioxide

Carbon Dioxide extinguishers remove heat from the combustible area or inhibt chain reactions within the fire. They are sometimes called Clean Agency extinguishers as they don’t leave a residue when used.

These extinguishers are suitable for use on class B and electrical fires.

fire extinguishers Dublin

Wet Chemical

Wet Chemical extinguishers help to control a fire by forming a soapy foam over a burning oil and cooling that oil to a temperature below its ignition temperature. They are generally used on Class F fires only however, some models, which utilise a misting nozzle are suitable for use on Class A fires also.
